Leah Bat Chaim lives in the low lying Santa Cruz mountains surrounded by dense redwood forest. She tells us that her two dogs nudge her awake every morning demanding a walk - and that she never leaves the house without a camera - whether it's going for a walk with her dogs - or driving down to the grocery store. "There are images that are there one day - and gone the next" she says, mentioning the photos of mushrooms that popped up after a heavy rain - and melted into the forest floor by the next day. 'Seeing' the image is only the first step. She'll lay down on the ground and take 10-20 photos with different lighting to get the one that works.
